On 28th Jan 2016 the students of PGDM 2015-17 batch got a chance to interact with Mr. ASHU MALHOTRA, the Chief HR Executive Officer at JABONG.COM.
The focus of the discussion was on growth potential of E-commerce in India. Based on his vast experience and expertise,he said that the coming times will be of “Internet of things “ (IOT) where most of the business transactions will be online. He started the discussion in a very interactive manner and asked student opinion regarding online business and its sustainability in future. He strongly emphasised that the industry is going to pick up a fast pace in future and will attract lot of attention from investors and other stakeholders. Mr Ashu talked of disruptive nature of E-commerce business model and the way it is changing the way things are done. In this VUCA environment, the E-commerce sector is going to see lot of consolidation through merger, takeover and acquisition. He also discussed e-commerce business can only be handled by reducing the complexity of it.
In the last of the session he analysed why e-commerce is so much popular in India and the possible reasons behind it. He also assessed the growth of online business in India, and with 65% of its population below 50 years of age, with other cities getting connected to internet and technology, with Indians becoming fashion conscious, the coming era will be very competitive.
Before concluding the session, Mr Ashu explained the model of working of E-commerce firm. He elaborated various new job verticals and roles played by people in those positions. And then focused the discussion on factors leading to generating more job opportunities.
