On 12th September 2020, the students of PGDM Retail Management batch 2020-22 got the opportunity to interact with Mr Kaushik Sheel, Visual Merchandising Lead, Landmark Group.Mr Kaushik, with his almost a decade long experience, provided valuable insights and growth prospects in the area of Visual Merchandising (VM).
Mr. Kaushik started the session with a small quiz to identify the current understanding of students in reference to visual merchandising, followed by the overview of the VM field,its relevance in the area of retail. He highlighted how and why VM is more than just an arrangement of merchandise in a pleasing manner. He explained various types and methods of visual merchandising which includes displaywindow, store layout, interior display, point of purchase etc. Mr. Kaushik also described how the five senses in our body can be used to result into saleconversion. He emphasized that how lighting in stores, the kind of music storeplays, fragrances used in the store also create a brand recall value in the mind of a consumer. He also highlighted how visual merchandising is also entering online shopping space which can very well become the next big influencer in online retail. Students were very enthusiastic about clearing their doubts and queries regarding VM as a career option. The session ended with a vote of thanks to Mr. Kaushik.
