One Week Short Term Training Program on Decision Making using Data Analysis


Jagan Institute ofManagement Studies, Rohini, Delhi, organized a one week Short Term TrainingProgram on ‘Decision Making using Data Analysis’ under AICTE QualityImprovement Scheme (AQIS). Mr.O.P.Sharma,Associate Fellow, National Council of Applied Economic Research, Delhi

O. P. Sharma is anAssociate Fellow at the NCAER, specialising in primary data collection, fieldmanagement, field training, coding and editing. He is currently the projectcoordinator for the India Human Development Survey-II. Some of the otherstudies he has worked on include: Fertiliser Consumption and Quality Seeds,Human Development Profile for India 2004-05, Rural Economic and DemographicChange in India and Third Census of Handloom Weavers. Between 1988 and 2007, heheaded the NCAER Field Office at Bhopal recruiting, training and supervisingfield staff and editing primary data. Mr. Sharma is MA (Economics) from AgraUniversity and has briefly worked as Research Assistant, Giri Institute ofDevelopment Studies, Lucknow

 


Mr.SubrataBandyopadhyay Director, Bureau of Researchon Industry and Economic Fundamentals (BRIEF), Delhi

Subrata Bandyopadhyay,Masters in Economics, has more than 15 years of experience in socio-economicresearch. He was associated with National Council of Applied Economic Research(NCAER) for more than three years in various capacities wherein he worked onvarious household and industrial surveys. He has been part of variousprestigious research projects for the Indian government as well as fromindustries during his tenure in NCAER. Some of the important projects includeIndia Science Report, Market Information Survey of Household (MISH), etc. Hehas also been associated with other organizations like NISTADS (a constituentestablishment of CSIR), indiastat.com, etc. Given the diversity of the studieshe has worked on, he has acquired expertise on Indian data – primary as well assecondary. He has also held extensive interaction with sponsors from bothindustry and the government. His proficiency lies in execution & implementationof large-scale surveys, developing survey instruments, primary & secondarydata analysis using modern statistical methods. At BRIEF he has beeninstrumental in managing survey based studies in the field of Socio-Economicsphere like health, women empowerment, education, etc.


    

Dr.H.K.Dangi            Associate Professor, DelhiSchool of Economics, University of Delhi, Delhi

Hamendra Kumar Dangi iscurrently an Associate Professor in Department of Commerce, Delhi School ofEconomics, and University of Delhi. He is Gold medallist in B.Tech andrecipient of Maharana Mewar Foundation Award, Udaipur. He did his MBA from R.APodar Institute of Management Jaipur and doctorate from FMS, University ofDelhi. He has worked with Faculty of Management Studies for eight years. Healso served in GGS IP University, Delhi for couple of years. Recently his bookon Business Research Methods is published. He has published several research papers in national and internationaljournals. He attended global colloquium on case writing at Harvard BusinessSchool, Boston. Dr. Dangi is actively engaged in teaching, research andconsultancy since 2005. He has been trainer for mid carrier IFS officers,DANICS and Paramilitary officials. He has assisted Indian Navy on impact assessmentstudy. He was part of research advisory team for studying quality of internetproject undertaken by Consumer Voice sponsored by TRAI. Dr. Dangi was member ofworking group to measure effectiveness of website to track missing children ofMinistry of Women and Child Development. He has successfully guided sixstudents for award of doctoral degree. He has conducted more than 40 workshopson research methods in reputed institutes as a resource person. His area ofresearch includes business research and marketing analytics.


Mr.Saurabh Agarwal, (B.Tech, M.Tech – IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi), Faculty &Consultant, IBM & UNESCO for Business Analytics, Kanpur

He is a graduate andpost graduate engineer from IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi. He is associated withPSIT Kanpur, trainer to Great Learning (Great Lakes), Gurgaon & EICTAcademy IIT Guwahati for their programs on Data Analysis & Machinelearning. He is a consultant to IBM and UNESCO for Business Analytics.  He has interest in Data Mining, DataAnalysis, Business Analytics, Structural Equation Modelling, Machine Learningand works on platforms like R, Python, SPSS, Amos, Clementine, IBM WatsonAnalytics. He has conducted international workshops/trainings for Saudi Aramcobiggest oil refinery in world, Kiatanin Bank Bangkok, KBM Kuwait, Ministry ofRoad Transport Abu Dhabi and prominent domestic trainings at AIMA, New Delhi,Symbiosis University, Pune, KJSIOM, Mumbai, VGSOM, IIT Kharagpur, Ernst &Young Trivandrum. He has published paper on Integrating Alternate PaymentChannels and was presented in The Fourth International Conference on PaymentChannels organized by Banknet India, Mumbai. His paper on Strategic BusinessDecision for Managers – An approach to ERP Evaluation was presented atconference on Role of Decision Making in Management organized by IMT Nagpur.The paper was then published as a chapter in a book Role of Management Sciencein Decision Making published by Excel India Publishers, New Delhi. It is alsoused as a text book.


Dr.A.K. Chauhan, Founder Research Shiksha, Former faculty IMT, Ghaziabad

Dr Ajay Kumar Chauhan isa freelancer and founder of Research Shiksha. He is a visiting faculty withMDI, IMT, NMIMS, IIFT, etc. He is also associated with industry as a datascientist. Dr,Chauhan has earlier worked with IMT- Ghaziabad as a full timefaculty for eight years. Prior to that he also worked with LBSIM, Delhi,Apeejay School of Management, etc. He is an expert on quantitative Finance andData Science. He is M.Sc, Mathematics, MBA-Finance, UGC NET and has also done aPhD in Finance. He has published 24 international research papers and threebooks. He is a well-known trainer of data science and analysis and hasconducted more than 500 national and international training workshops on topicssuch as ‘Financial Econometrics’, ‘Time series analysis’, ‘Structural EquationModelling (SEM),’ ‘Panel Data Analysis,’ and ‘Business Research Methods,’ inreputed institutions of India such as NHPC, Coca Cola, IMT Ghaziabad,UGC-Academic Staff Colleges, IIIFT, Delhi University, NHPC, National Instituteof Technology (NIT), IIIT, Ministry of Communications and many more. He alsotaught in Bulgaria and done an advance course in econometrics from Switzerland.


Dr.N P Singh, Associate Professor- Management, JIMS, Rohini, Delhi

Dr. Narinder Pal Singhis Associate Professor of Finance at Jagan Institute of Management Studies(JIMS), Delhi. He is JRF UGC-NET qualified, PGDBM (Finance) Gold Medalist andMaster of Financial Management (MFM). He earned his M. Phil. (Finance) fromUniversity of Delhi and Ph D from Delhi School of Management, DelhiTechnological University (DTU). Dr Singh has over 18 years of teachingexperience in Finance courses like Derivatives and Risk Management, SecurityAnalysis and Portfolio management, Financial Management, Operations Researchand Business Statistics. Teaching and research has been his core interests. Hisresearch areas include Commodity and Stock Derivatives, Financial Markets andCorporate Finance. Dr Singh has successfully completed summer researchfellowship at IIT, Delhi.  He is a memberof Association of Indian Management Scholars (AIMS). He has co-authored twobooks titled Operations Research and Quantitative Techniques & OperationsResearch for UG and PG courses for Ane Books India Publications. He haspresented papers in International Conferences at IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM Kozhikode,IIT Delhi and many other institutes of international repute. His researchpapers have been published in ABDC and UGC CARE listed, Web of Science and ScopusIndexed journals. He has also written some cases in finance for class roomdiscussions. He has delivered some FDPs on Financial Econometrics and researchmethodology at reputed universities and B-schools of repute. Dr Singh hasreviewed some papers for ABDC and UGC CARE listed journals on Internationalpublication houses namely Inderscience and Sage. He has also chaired technicalsessions during some International Conferences organised by IIM Kozhikode,Calicut; Symbiosis International University, Noida and JIMS, Delhi

 

DayWise Session Report

 

·        Day-1, 24-8-2020(Session -1 & 2)

STTP started with thewelcome address by Dr.Pooja Jain, Director, JIMS, Rohini. She told about thepurpose of this workshop and also briefed the participants about JIMS and itsvarious activities related to faculty development.

Speaker for session 1 explainedthe types of research and their applications in different situations. Hediscussed and related his practical experiences in the area of field research.He discussed different aspects of Fundamental, Applied and Exploratoryresearch. 

Speaker for session 2 explainedthe importance of qualitative data and its analysis in the research. Hedemonstrated that how a qualitative data can be organized and analysed throughsoftware such as NVivo and Atlas.ti.

·        Day-2, 25-8-2020(Session -1 & 2)

Speaker for session 1introduced the theoretical aspects of descriptive statistics and explained theconcepts of measures of central tendency and dispersion. Hypothesis testing wasdemonstrated with few practical examples through MS Excel. Further, concept ofregression was explained and queries were resolved.

Speaker for session 2 talkedabout Sampling and its types, Questionnaire preparation, scaling and datacleaning. Further, he discussed about how government surveys are done with fewpractical examples. Furthermore, doubts were also taken up throughout thesession. It was very insightful session and ended with vote of thanks.

·        Day-3, 26-8-2020(Session -1 & 2)

Speaker during both thesessions, explained the SPSS and its application in research data analytics. Heexplained the types of data, scales, errors and hypotheses testing. Statisticaltools required for various types of data were also demonstrated. Participantswere given assignment for submission through e-mail.

·        Day-4, 27-8-2020(Session -1 & 2)

Speaker explained theconcepts of Correlation, Regression, Anova etc. through SPSS. Previous day’sassignment was also discussed and missing concepts were explained. Parametricand non- parametric tests applicable in different situations weredemonstrated.  Both theory of dataanalysis as well as their practical applications were discussed.

·        Day-5, 28-8-2020(Session -1 & 2)

Speaker demonstratedStructural Equation Modelling using AMOS software through a dummy data set.Participants were engrossed and came up with their queries, which were duly handleda regular intervals. He explained Exploratory and Confirmatory factor analysiswith the help of his own published research papers and few practical examples.

·         Day-6,29-8-2020 (Session -1 & 2)

Speaker explained HypothesisTesting and interpretation using SEM and PLS, etc. He demonstrated throughAMOS, how to build models and interpret them. Few research papers werediscussed and tips were provided on how to make the research more effective.

STTP concluded with aVote of Thanks by the faculty coordinator Dr Sumesh Raizada. He conveyed hisgratitude to all the resource persons and also acknowledged the assistance andsupport provided by the JIMS Management, Director, IT staff and respectivesession incharges.

An online Assessment of30 minutes duration was held for all the registered participants ande-Certificates were distributed after taking their feedbacks.
