JIMS Rohini organized a Guest Lecture on “Export Incentives” on August 29, 2020 for the students of PGDM-International Business, with the objective of acquainting them with the export incentives; numerous policies and their working. The resource person for the session was Ms. Chandrima Chaterjee, Advisor and Senior Director at Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), Ministry of Commerce.
Ms. Chaterjee began with the introduction of the concept of neutralization and discussed the objectives of the export incentives and their benefits to the domestic content of a country. While mentioning schemes such as “Aatma-nirbhar Bharat”; and many more such crucial ones, she further elucidated their types and the functioning. She elaborated on the rules and policies as established by the World Trade Organization, while simultaneously talking about various kinds of subsidies and the provisions for the same. Ms. Chandrima also discussed a case study based on the textile and apparel sector. In addition to this, she provided information on export competitors (countries) that have additional market access (more than India) and did a comparative analysis on the incentives provided by them. She finally concluded the session by sharing her opinion on “RODTEP” as a way forward and its implications.
The session helped the students to understand the implications of the theories in the practical world of Export Import . This may lead to imbibing the interest towards such topics of International Business.
