Lady Bird Johnson once said, “The Environment is where we all meet, where we all have a mutual interest, it is the one thing all of us share.”
From the pleasant whiff of oxygen that flows through the park beside your house every morning as the birds chirp through daylight to the tiny droplets of silver which befall from the sky and put us all out of the misery of the scorching heat: Environment has an indelible role to play in each one of these scenarios. But during the past couple decades with skyscrapers making their way into the cities and vehicles crawling through the streets round the clock; our Environment has deteriorated up to an intolerable extent.
Keeping that ideology in mind, the IIC chapter of JIMS, Rohini decided to do something about it and make the world a more sustainable place to live in on this World Environment Day.
Two stepping stones were laid in the form of interactive activities as the way forward:
- Crafting out Memes/ Cartoons/ Signage revolving around the theme “Only One Earth” through which the participants aimed to put their creativity into tangible pieces of work that would help spread the word about Environmental Protection and incite people everywhere to be more sensitive towards their immediate environment.
- Plant a tree, take a selfie& tag us on our socials: This initiative proposed to incorporate the indispensable power of Social Media to permeate our message of taking the right steps to shield the environment from the demons of development and industrialization. The activity required the participants to plant a sapling, click a picture with it, and articulate their experience in about 200 words while tagging @JimsDelhi on Facebook and @Jimsrohinisector5 on Instagram.
We ended up receiving an overwhelming amount of splendid entries which were all so impressive and touching that it was a hard nut to crack to actually arrive at a decision on who would win the contests and be rewarded with prestigious certificates and exciting cash prizes.
Our mission was to spread consciousness, to awaken people to the cause of leaving behind a more sustainable, better environment for the future generations to spend their lives in and we will always strive to undertake more initiatives to accomplish our mission.
