The orientation program for batch 2022-24 began on 5th July with the Inaugural ceremony at JIMS Rohini campus. The proceedings began with the lamp lighting ceremony along with Saraswati Vandana.
The session was graced by the presence of Dr. Pratima Diapuria (Dean PGDM ), Dr. Yukti Ahuja (HOD PGDM-International Business), and Dr. R.K Singh (HOD PGDM-Retail Management) who had a great time interacting before the session began.
The session started with an opening address and a welcome note by Dr. Pooja Jain (Director, JIMS Rohini) to the faculty, students and guests of honor. Dr. Jain briefed about the institute, its vision and mission, history and ranking of the institute along with recent achievements. She told students about the importance of the program and how it is focused on enhancing the skills and learning of the students along with placements. She also mentioned different specializations of the program and how the faculty and staff members of the college will help students to take the right path and guide them.
Director-General of JIMS Rohini, Dr. Harshavardhan Halve, a prolific academic professional with more than 28 years of experience in academic administration, teaching, and management consulting. He has considerable exposure to core B-School activities like Teaching, Research, Admissions, Placements, Rankings, and Brand building. Dr.Halve advised that learning is not based on scores and MBA students should be able to express themselves freely. In addition to learning during the curriculum, the institution aims to help the students apply what they have learned to the workplace, which is what the company experts expect during the placements.
The keynote address was given by Mr. Ashish Bhalla, Associate Director and Head of Campus Relations at HCL Technologies. He is a versatile HR professional with over 18 years of multifaceted background in Operations, Project Management, Workforce Planning, Transitions, and Recruitment in India, the US, and the UK. He currently heads Technical, MBA Campus Hiring, Cadre Development Programs, and Work Integrated Learning Programs at HCL Technologies. Mr. Ashish Bhalla talked about how to choose specializations while considering your interests and thinking about your future goal. He explained that to be an effective management professional, one should be knowledgeable in the industry and aware of current market trends. He talked about the importance of preparing for placements and the type of homework one should do beforehand.
In the second part of the session, an alumnus of the PGDM batch (2003-2005) Puneet Grover, who is currently a president at Yes Bank, addressed the audience. Mr. Grover is a veteran in the banking industry with over 17 years of experience. He is renowned as a dynamic, focused, and results-oriented leader with an eye for detail. Mr. Grover has risen through the ranks of two of the most prestigious organizations in the country and his journey is an inspiration for us managers and bankers of the next generation
By reminiscing his golden memories and life lessons from professors who helped him throughout his career, he shares his experiences, of learning at the institute. Students were encouraged by the Alumni to learn from the new beginnings and start a new chapter in their lives.
The session was followed by IOCL's Executive Director, Mr. Arup Sinha who addressed the students during his orientation speech. With over three decades of experience in the petroleum and aviation industry, Mr. Sinha has a diverse background in the fields of sales, HR, operations, and retail among others. He has made significant contributions to IOCL's success over the years, through his specialized skill development and apprentice training program, upskilling the youth of India. According to Mr. Sinha, growth is only possible when you step out of your comfort zone. During his talk, he stressed the importance of personal health for students as well as any other human being. As upcoming management professionals, they should establish themselves in society since they are already qualified. The students need to develop their technical and managerial skills.
Each student drew a list on the first day of their postgraduate program. It will be remembered as a day of celebration and learning at the campus.
