Debate competition “War of Words” was organized by Expression, the Literary Society on the theme 'Feminism has taken over patriarch' on 9/11/2019 for PGDM batch (2019-21) students. Most of the participants spoke against the motion and significant points were raised during the discourse such as meaning of feminism, its re-interpretation, mis-interpretation with the passage of time and the ills of patriarchal social systems.
Interesting examples included ghunghat system which reflects forced respect for the males as well as seclusion of females from the mainstream public life.
Conflict of equal rights with feminism or otherwise were a very common issue raised by most debaters. Crime against women and also the mis-use of laws to prevent the same were also discussed with heart wrenching examples.
Despite the debate there was agreement to inculcate empathy and equality among the sexes from an early age.
The debate was judged by Mr. Shubham Grover and Ms. Divya Yadav, students of PGDM (2018-20) whose shared their views via brief comments towards the end of the event. Shubhaan Talwar (MBA program, JIMS Rohini, Sec 3) and Nikita Dhyani (PGDM, JIMS Rohini Sec 5 were adjudged first and runner up Best Speaker / Debator.
