An MDP on ‘Developing Professionals for Leadership Roles’ for the Senior Managers, Punjab & Sind Bank at NIBSCOM, Noida on 3rd June 2019 was organised by JIMS Rohini Delhi. The resource persons for the MDP were Dr. Pooja Jain, Professor and Director, JIMS Rohini, Ms. Harpreet Rakhra, Associate Professor, JIMS Rohini and Dr. Yukti Ahuja, Associate Professor, JIMS Rohini.
The day began with a welcome address by Mr. K. K. Vatsa, faculty, NIBSCOM followed by a session on “Donning the Leader’s Role” by Dr. Pooja Jain. The managers were familiarised with the overlaps and the distinctiveness between manager-leader roles. An ice breaking activity was done to convey the expectations from these roles. The discussion was further carried on skill development and willingness management for performance enhancement.
In the next session Dr. Yukti Ahuja led participants into in-depth self-awareness analysis which was followed by an introduction to Leadership styles. She emphasised on the Facets of EI in Leadership and strategies to develop EI. Self- assessment test was conducted during the session and its implications were discussed.
The third session was conducted by Ms. Harpreet Rakhra on Leadership through Effective Communication which included activities followed by discussion on Clarity, Conciseness, Courtesy and Consideration in a leader’s communication. Non-verbal communication was also elaborated upon which not only helped the participants recognize their own body language but helped them understand the nuances of verbal transactions.
The fourth session was conducted through a team activity wherein teams were created and they were asked to create bridges with newspaper which had to be sturdy. The session was a quick revision of all the concepts learnt during the day like ‘skill-will management’, ‘role of a leader’, ‘team management’, ‘verbal and non-verbal communication’ etc. Participants thoroughly enjoyed the session and remained engaged till the end.
The day was packed with learnings and take-aways. The participants gave an outstanding feedback about the programme.
