JIMS Rohini Organized Panel Discussion


The event was organized by Dr. Geeta Sharma, core faculty of JIMS, on 10th April 2024, starting from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. It was organized in offline mode in A – Building Auditorium at JIMS Rohini Sector-5, New Delhi.


Objective:

1. Knowledge Sharing: Panel discussion aims to disseminate information, insights, and expertise on the respective topic to the audience. Panelists share their knowledge and experiences, providing diverse perspectives and enriching the understanding of the audience.

2. Exploration of Topics: Panel discussions provide a platform for in-depth exploration and analysis of complex topics. Through dialogue and exchange of ideas among panelists, different aspects of the topic are examined, enabling the audience to gain a comprehensive understanding.

3. Critical Thinking and Debate: Panel discussion involves the presentation of contrasting viewpoints or opinions on a topic, stimulating critical thinking and encouraging healthy debate. Panelists may challenge each other's ideas, leading to a deeper exploration of the subject matter.

4. Audience Engagement: Panel discussion facilitates interaction between panelists and the audience, and creates opportunities for questions, comments, and discussions. Audience participation enhances engagement and allows for a more dynamic and inclusive conversation.


Brief about the event:

The panel discussion event was supported by JIMS Rohini Sector 5. The primary objective of this event was to delve into the intricacies of Google Gemini and comprehensively explore its various facets. Through the collective insights and expertise of a diverse panel comprising 7 esteemed panelists, the aim was to foster a deep understanding of Gemini's functionalities, applications, and potential impact across different domains.

The event was commenced by Akanksha Gilhotra with a welcome note for our judges, Mr. Neeraj Sarup Sharma and Ms. Ankita Chopra, and our panelists. The event was continued further with the introduction of our panelists (students of the BCA program of JIMS).

  1. The first intro was of Sanidhya Goel of BCA 2nd year, an ML Developer, Graphic Designer, head of NSS, the president of GeekRoom JIMS community, etc.
  2. The next intro was of Tejaswini Nayyar of BCA 1st year, an enthusiastic and courageous individual, and member of the photography club.
  3. The intro was followed up with Sana of BCA 1st year, a member of the patriotic club.
  4. The next intro was of Mishti Bareja of BCA 1st year, one of the members of the cultural club.
  5. Further, Rachita Kapoor was introduced as a software developer from BCA 1st year.
  6. Tanya Gera of BCA 2nd year was introduced as the sixth panelist. She is the head coordinator of the placement cell, the coordinator of two of the clubs, and is a part of the IT magazine and newsletter.
  7. At last of the introduction, Vineet Tiwari of BCA 2nd year was introduced. He is a part of the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and the Cultural Club.

After the introduction of all the panelists, our esteemed judges were introduced. The introduction started with our esteemed guest and judge Mr. Neeraj Sarup Sharma. He is a senior manager – Technology with over 16+ years of experience in IT Development, Engineering projects and Consulting, Business Analysis in various domains including Banking, Telecom Billing systems, CRM Systems, etc.

After the introduction of Mr. Neeraj Sharma our next esteemed judge Ms. Ankita Chopra was introduced. Ms. Ankita Chopra is an Associate Professor at the Jagan Institute of Management Studies, New Delhi. She has more than 14 years of experience in academia and Industry. She is actively involved in Research work and has presented research papers at IIM-Ranchi, IIM-Indore, and IIT Chennai. She has been associated with the Institute’s Innovation Council since its inception and has led the council in leading innovation, entrepreneurship, and start-up activities. Her area of expertise is Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. She holds a degree in B. Tech (CSE) and M. Tech (CSE). At present, she is Pursuing a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence.

Before the discussion started, an insight into the topic of Google Gemini was given by Akanksha Gilhotra and then as a moderator, Akanksha initiated the panel discussion by asking the first question to one of the panelists Sanidhya Goel ‘Do you feel the pace we currently are with Generative AI, can we maintain that pace?’. Sanidhya Goel very efficiently put up his thoughts and explained the concepts of conversational AI, Natural language Processing (NLP), Generative AI, LLM, etc., and the areas where the Generative AI is not capable of responding appropriately and ended his opinion with thanks.

After Sanidhya, the next question was asked to Tejaswini Nayyar which was ‘Is Gemini AI safe to use?’. Tejaswini confidently put forward her views starting with an explanation about Google Gemini and the idea behind Gemini along with the implementation of Gemini. She also shed light on the workings of Google Gemini mentioning the neural network techniques, transformer model, and many other aspects of Google Gemini models. Then she explained how safe Gemini AI is for the users, mentioning that Gemini is constantly learning and improving thus we can't rely on the technology blindly.

After Tejaswini the merry-go-round of questions stopped on Rachita Kapoor with the question ‘How is Gemini setting the benchmark high?’. Rachita answered the question by mentioning the strengths of Gemini including multi-modality, time-saving, understanding the world around it just like humans, a high succeeding rate of almost 90%, explaining concepts and debugging codes, technical powers, etc. She also mentioned the limitations of Gemini like less accuracy in spatial reasoning, less understanding of longer videos, etc.

Sana Chopra was the next panelist who put forward her views on the question ‘How Gemini can be used or what are the use cases of Gemini?’. She gave an insight into the 3 cosmic sizes of Gemini i.e. ultra, pro, and nano sizes. Along with this she also explained the use cases of Gemini in which she mentioned the products and services offered by Google which are referred to by Google Gemini like Google Ad Manager, Google Gemini Projects, Google Gemini App, Google Gemini OS, etc.

After Sana, the next question was asked to Mishti Bareja, ‘How does Google Gemini differ from other digital advertising platforms?’. She gave information about the business strategies and the ability to tailor the advertising campaigns, and with small investments brings maximum returns. She also talked about customer engagement through dynamic ad formats and personalized targeting capabilities, also Gemini enables businesses to cut through the noise and engage with customers on a deeper level. She ended by mentioning the growing need of Gemini to transform businesses.

Vineet was the next to answer the question ‘How can you say that Gemini is better than other chatbots?’. He mentioned the capability to integrate Google’s search engine and workspace, chatgpt’s inability to refer data post January 2022 whereas Gemini draws on data pulled from the internet in real-time. He also mentioned key features of Gemini like Natural Language Understanding (NLU) and Natural Language Generative (NLG), Multi-platform Integration, and Personalized and Context Retention in return Mr. Neeraj (Judge) asked a question that the personalized context concept is used in platforms like youtube and also ChatGPT, then how is it different in Gemini? For this question, Vineet and Sanidhya both answered simultaneously.

After Vineet concluded the next question was asked to the last panelist, Tanya Gera, ‘What steps should companies take to ensure users’ data is responsibly and ethically?’. She gave insights into the privacy issues that are occurring and that will occur in the future. She highlighted issues like bias and hallucinations, sociopolitical ramifications of AI bias, violation of ethics of AI, etc.
