JIMS Rohini Organized Debate Competition

Objective of the contest:

The primary goal of a debate is for students to generate effective critical thinking into primary issues in the given topic

Learning Outcomes:

Gaining broad, multi-faceted knowledge cutting across several disciplines outside the learner's normal academic subjects. Increasing learners' confidence, poise, and self-esteem.

The Academic Club organized the debate competition on 26th October 2023. The participants spoke in favour of the motion and against the motion, the summary of their viewpoint is mentioned as under :

For The Motion :

War is not the solution to all problems, and it should not be viewed as such. War is a destructive and often tragic means of resolving conflicts that should only be considered as a last resort when all other peaceful options have been exhausted. It typically results in loss of life, suffering, and long-term social, economic, and political consequences.

Many problems and conflicts can be better addressed through peaceful means, such as negotiation, diplomacy, dialogue, compromise, and international cooperation. These methods are generally more effective in promoting stability, security, and the well-being of people. War should only be considered in situations where there is a legitimate threat to a nation's security and all efforts to resolve the issue peacefully have failed.

Against The Motion :

War can serve as a means to defend a nation's sovereignty and protect its citizens. When faced with an aggressive adversary who is unwilling to engage in peaceful dialogue, military action may be necessary to deter further aggression and secure the safety of the population.

Consider history. Throughout centuries, there have been instances where diplomacy and peaceful negotiations have failed to prevent or resolve conflicts. In such cases, war has been used to protect nations from external threats or to address severe internal crises."

Following students were distinguished with the positions :
