General Guidelines for Music Events:

  • Use of sample pads/octa pads (e.g., Roland sample pads/Yamaha DTX pads) are not allowed in group songs (Indian & Western).
  • All the accompanists/instrumentalists and participants must be from the same college. No outsiders allowed.
  • The teams should carry an official letter from their respective institutes signed by the competent authority mentioning the names of the participants.
  • No recorded vocals will be allowed.

Music Events

Classical Vocal Solo

Classical Vocal Solo (Hindustani & Carnatic)

  • Classical Hindustani and Carnatic only.
  • Number of participants is 1.
  • Maximum number of accompanists is 2.
  • Time Limit: Minimum 5 minutes; Maximum 7 minutes.
  • Sufficient thought and care must be exercised in the choice of raga and composition.
  • Judgement will be based on the qualities like swara, taal, selection of raga, composition, and general impression.

Light Vocal Music (Indian)

  • Number of participants is 1.
  • Maximum number of accompanists is 2.
  • Time limit: Minimum 5 minutes, Maximum 7 minutes
  • Only non-film songs (geet/ghazal/bhajan/shabad and abhangas) can be presented.

Western Vocal Solo

Western Vocal Solo

  • Number of participants is 1.
  • Maximum number of accompanists is 2.
  • Time limit: Maximum 6 minutes
  • Judgement will be based on qualities like selection of song, tempo, rhythm, range, and melody.

Group Song (Indian)

  • Minimum number of participants in a team is 6, and the maximum is 12.
  • Maximum of 4 accompanists allowed.
  • Time limit: Minimum 8 minutes; Maximum 10 minutes (including stage setup).
  • No film songs allowed.
  • Judgement will be based on the quality of singing, coordination, and not on makeup, costume, or actions of the team.

Group Song (Western)

  • Minimum number of participants in a team is 6, and maximum is 12.
  • Maximum of 4 accompanists allowed.
  • Time limit: Minimum 8 minutes; Maximum 10 minutes (including stage setup).
  • Judgement will be based on quality of singing only and not on makeup, costume or actions of the team.
  • The group songs should be in English only.

Battle of Bands

  • Minimum number of participants in a team is 4, and maximum 10.
  • Maximum 4 accompanists allowed.
  • Time limit: Minimum 15 minutes; Maximum 20 minutes (including stage setup).
  • Each band can perform Eastern/Western or both.
  • Use of prerecorded music (e.g sequences, keyboard rhythm, guitar loops) will result in disqualification.
  • No instrument will be provided by the organizer.
