Workshop on “Excellence in Stores Operations in association with RAI, Mumbai

At: Jagan Institute of Management Studies, Sector -5, Rohini

Excellence in Stores Operations (ESOPs), a Management Development Programme (MDP), was organized by Jagan Institute of Management Studies along with Retailer Association of India (RAI). The Workshop was conducted on 5th March 2013 & 6th March, 2013 at Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini Sector -5 campus.

The event opened with Lighting of the lamp by Guests of Honor  - Dr. J. K. Goyal, Director, JIMS, Rohini; Mr. Ashmit S Alag, Director, Academy of Applied Arts, New Delhi; Mr. Lawrence Fernandes, Director-Retail Learning, RAI, Mumbai and Dr.Sumesh Raizada, Dean (Retail Management), JIMS, Rohini. It was followed by the Inaugural speech of Dr. J. K. Goyal, Director, JIMS and the floral welcome of Guest of Honors. In the welcome speech, Dr. Goyal briefed the delegates about JIMS and its contribution towards society in shaping futures of the young generation since 1993.  He further added “ESOPs gives an excellent platform to retailers like you who have a desire to imbibe and adopt proven best practices, thus this workshop provides understanding and learning to achieve retail performance by virtue of enhancing store productivity and profitability.
Therefore, MDPs play an important role in field of management studies as they focus on the necessary skills required not only for personal development but also for the professional development.

The Program was designed by Retailers Association of India (RAI) on Excellence in Store Operations, which was a learning platform for Retail Store Managers, Assistant Store Managers, Department Managers, Independent Retailers & Retail Managers. The ESOPs workshop is designed by RAI to provide understanding of important functions in Retail Sector – such as Finance and Accounts, Marketing, Operations, IT, Management, Merchandising and Product Management, Customer Relationship Management and careful assessment of relevant skills required for the same.

In-store Visual Merchandising
Local Store Marketing & Catchment Area Analysis
Understanding Buying & Merchandising & Inventory Management in the Store

Workshop was highly interactive as participants engaged in practice exercises, case studies and discussions. The detailed presentations were given by the industry experts – Mr. Ashmit Salag, Director – Education, Academy of Applied Arts (expertise in Visual Merchandising and store designing experience); Ms. Neeti Sharma, Founder – Excel Retail HR,(expertise in Retail Management, Retail Processes and Standard Operating Procedures, Retail HR, Building Retailing Competencies through T & D, Talent Development, Content Creation and Delivery); Mr. Ankur Damani, Regional Head – North India, VIP Industries (rich industry experience of more than 7 years in retail industry across functions); Mr. Sajjad Shaikh, National Head – Retail (CS), Aircel Ltd. (rich industry experience in major Retail brands like Burberry, CK, Davidoff, Cross, Cristian Dior, Gucci, etc.); Mr. Rajiv Sundaram, Deputy General Manager – Merchandising, Spencer’s Retail Limited (expertise in Visual Merchandising and Creative designing)

The session ended with a short video on importance of customer service in Retail, which was highly appreciated by the delegates.

The MDP received an overwhelming response with the participation of more than eighty delegates from around 10 Retail Organizations like VLCC INSTITUTE, INFINITI RETAIL LTD., BATA INDIA LTD., SPENCERS RETAIL LTD., ARVIND BRANDS – ARROW, ARVIND BRANDS – NAUTICA, BIBA APPARELS PVT. LTD., ITC LTD., ARVIND BRANDS, STORE 99, Vmart etc.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Sumesh Raizada, Dean (Retail & Marketing), JIMS, who extended a warm gratitude to all the speakers and participants. The session concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation to the delegates. 

The session was great learning experience for all the participants and students of JIMS.
