Continuing with the interactive student-academia initiative, a workshop on "Managing the Challenges of International Market" was held at JIMS premises on 14th October 2008. Prof. Warwick Jones, Executive Dean, Bristol Business School, University of the West of England was the lead faculty and Chief Presenter. Welcoming Prof. Jones, Dr. R.P. Maheshwari, Director General JIMS highlighted the contribution of JIMS in offering value added management courses in the context of fast changing business scenario. He succinctly brought out the challenges of globalization of business. Prof. Warwick Jones introduced the subject by laying bare the concept, scope and objectives of International Marketing. Highlighting the complexity of international market architecture in terms of economic, legal, political, cultural and historical diversity in different parts of the global market, he remarked that such a diversity impacts the different marketing strategies followed by business managers. He pointed out the historical role of well-established MNC's of the western world and the growing contribution of companies of the emerging economies, including India. The presentation covered a wide range of sub-topics embellished by the speaker's vast knowledge and work experience. In the course of his presentation Prof. Jones alluded to a member of research findings of the world renowned management and marketing experts. Concluding his address, he invited questions from the students. The workshop was also addressed by Prof. Brij Mohan, who while endorsing the viewpoints of Prof. Jones, suggested that the world was undergoing paradigm metamorphosis, the contours of which were not easy to comprehend. He called for a holistic approach for analyzing and understanding the world situation and suggesting an inclusive regenerating plan-of-action. There was need to have Business Philosophers rather than Business Managers, he remarked. The workshop ended with the concluding remarks of Dr. J.K. Goyal, Director, JIMS, who in his inimitable style refocused the subject by highlighting the contribution of Ancient Indian Culture. TOP Back
