Finance for Non-Finance Managers

Finance is the core of every activity in any business. ‘Finance is the language of business’ and therefore plays very important role for creating a sound platform for development of a management executive. In order to learn the language one ought to learn the grammar. This programme is specifically designed to teach grammatical skills of the language of FINAN CE.

Over the last few years, the ‘Great Divide’ of Marketing, Finance, Human Resource, Production and Information Technology has evaporated. Now the finance function is not isolated in a water-tight compartment where only the fish should venture. It is the responsibility of every employer and every employee to grow and develop analytical and logical thinking of the finance function.

A Marketing Manager or Personnel Manager is equally expected to have certain level of skills and knowledge for reading and analyzing the financial statements in the industry. Costing figures and its impact on the annual report concern the Production Manager and even a Head of Research & Development department. An IT manager or a System Manager will not be able to justify the job if not aware about the implications and mechanism of the basic accounting and finance. Knowledge of basic concepts in Finance, Budgets, Accounting and Audits is essential for a manager to take up higher roles in Management.


Objectives

  • To Prepare non-finance Managers for taking up additional charge of Finance & Accounts department.
  • To impart knowledge and skills to non-finance Managers to read, interpret and take business decisions on the basis of financial statements including the balance, sheet, profit & loss account, cash flow statement, and also understanding important aspects of budgets, investments and audits.

Mr. Vinod Kumar

Born in the Year 1953, Mr. Vinod Kumar is a Postgraduate in science from Banaras Hindu University and Master of Business Management (MBM) from same University in 1977. He has an experience of about 35 Years in various facets of Indian Industries. He started his career in Management Development Institute (MDI) as Research Associate and subsequently in Bongaigaon Refinery and Petrochemicals, Assam, U.P. Development Systems Corporation Ltd., Lucknow, Cement Corporation of India, U.P. State Cement Corporation, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and finally Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
During his tenure in ONGC Mr. Vinod Kumar has handled various assignments as Head-Direct Taxation, Chief Commercial, Indirect Taxation and Treasury, Head Finance Mehsana Asset & Head Finance – Common Finance Services Group. His efforts have been recognized by ONGC by awarding CMD’s Corporate Awards twice for his innovative initiatives in the area of Direct Taxation and in Commercial dealing leading to substantial financial savings to the Corporation.
Apart from his regular assignments, Mr. Vinod Kumar has always shown his keen interest in the areas of training and development and has been providing training in the area of finance to the officers’ community of various public sector undertakings. Mr. Vinod Kumar is also an Associate Member of Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI).
Mr. Vinod Kumar is presently working as Group General Manager in ONGC.

Ms. Dilpreet Kaur is a Postgraduate in M.Com from Delhi School of Economics. She has excellent academic record and has been active in organizing various events both in her student and professonal life. She is UGC Net qualified and has been associated with JIMS since 2009 as a an Assistant Professor in Management Department.
Ms. Dilpreet Kaur’s area of interest include Micro Economics and Financial Management. She has participated in several seminars and workshops organized by various academic institutions. She has also conducted MDP for banking professionlas on, “Micro Finance: Fund Accessibility to Masses with Good Business Sense”


Dr. Navneet Joshi

Dr. Navneet Joshi has experience of over 11 years in the area of academics. He is M.Com from Rohilkhand University. He also holds Ph.D degree in Commerce from the same University.
Dr. Navneet Joshi has presented papers in several National and International Conferences and has also published various articles in journals. He has also actively participated in various work-shops, seminars and quality improvements programmes organized by leading academic insititutions in India.
Dr. Navneet Joshi is curently associated with JIMS as an Associate Professor in the management department.
